Roof covering for their shed...

Recommended Posts

I put up a new shed at the weekend on a concrete base for my girls and boys over the winter. We're putting a light in through the day so if it's raining they won't be sitting in there in the dark, and an automatic pop hole opener.

Now the shed came with roofing felt and I was for obvious reasons going to replace with onduline but... We live on the coast and it is very exposed and windy, my mother used to keep chickens and her onduline roofing kept blowing off, potentially taking the roof with it.

Do you think it is okay for me to use the felt during the winter when red mite are less prevalent (i think?) and replace with onduline for the summer months? I know it's a hassle to keep replacing it but everything is a hassle outside here in the wind

Thanks

Alison

I would strip off the felt leaving the boards and then put onduline on that, the boards should hold the Onduline on better and prevent less lift in the wind, added battens in the shed roof mean you can add more anchor points

You could try corrugated plastic which is lighter so if that blew upwards it would pull away and not wreck the roof beneath, not ideal I suppose

You could leave the felt on as it sounds like a full height shed so the felt is a long way above the chooks so it is a little less risky than a low coop but just keep on top of your red mite checking. Personally I wouldnt recommend it (but I do also have coops with felt  )
