My mum used to keep chickens when we were children and she told me. So I gave them their shells (all crunched up and mixed with some sweetcorn) and they did indeed eat them. As I discovered on Monday - I managed to drop an egg in their outside run. OMG - they pounched on it like hens on sweetcorn. I went back later to see them and intended to pick up the shell - gone. Interestingly they have been eating their oyster grit after not bothering before. But I reckon it's because their snail and other crunchie supply has vanished as we move into winter.
