chuckmum6
At last I have had my first egg, found this morning in the nest box a little perfectly formed light brown egg ! I'm soooo pleased and my boys will be delighted when they come home from school! But I am not too sure who the clever girl is .... I think it may be my silver laced Wyandotte who is now 25 weeks, or it could be my partridge Pekin who is around 30 weeks (I think) ?? What colour eggs do these chickens lay? I understand that you can tell the egg colour from the ear or is it the ear lobe? I am really please that she used the nest box in the cube as I have been blocking it off to stop Hen the Aracana pooing in it, as she insist on perching in the dived with her bum in the nest box area - of course! I also have a crested Legbar (24wks) who is enormous and looks like she should be laying - but her eggs should be blue/green and another blue laced Wyandotte who's comb is smaller but is about the same age as the other. My Araucana and lemon Pekin are both too young at 21 wks.
Chook n Boo Mum
If it's any help at all here's a picture of Blossom, my Buff Pekin's first egg with the other eggs of the day Hers is the diddy one , the others are about shop-sized medium & are from my hybrids or batties. This was taken some time ago, in the days when Blossom deigned to lay..........she did this for about 7-10 days...went broody....I broke the spell by shutting her out of the & she's not laid since How are you going to cook your first egg then....sharing it between the family could be interesting if it is from a bantam:lol: Sha x
chuckmum6
I think it might have been Jen the Pekin, I found two browny feathers in the nest box when I cleaned it out just now - certainly not Dotty's black and white feathers. I hope she doesn't go broody - although she does look the sort, bit of an individualist, happy on her own! Blossom's egg looks very similar to mine - maybe I won't shut Jen out of the box if she goes broody, fancy not laying again! How do you get photo's on here? chuckmum6
She is keen, I found another egg this morning! I am fairly certain it is Jen the partridge Pekin. The only thing is the second egg wasn't laid in the newly fluffed up clean nestbox (I'd add some of the guinea pigs straw), no it was on the roosting bars, and the nestbox had been violated by the Hen Solo pooing in it again arrgghhh!
