ChrisEllis
We currently have 3 silkies that are abut 11-12 weeks and 3 polands that are 8-9 weeks, one of our polands (the only frizzle) has started to get red around his mouth and above his beak, im starteding to get a bit worried as i know the silkies didnt approve of them at first but i was wondering if he is getting himself in fights because the other two keep themselves to themselves but now and agian you see scruffy run up to the silkie which is nearly twice his size and peck them - so i was wondering if there was a bit of coop bullying going on? Redwing
Is it red as in sore and/or bleeding Chris? If its not and is just 'flushed' male Polands and some other crested breeds will go very red around that whole area as they begin to grow a bit, its a bit more startling than the normal red comb and wattles you see in other male cockerels, I have a Sultan cockerel and an Arucana which are another crested breeds and they both went very red at quite a young age Polands are prone to being bullied though and the fact that yours are younger than the silkies doesnt help, the odd peck is inevitable but do a bit of googling to see if the colour is natural just in case Here is a pic of my Araucana boy at quite a young age to show the redness, hope it helps
ChrisEllis
no its not bleeding - i dont know it doesnt look as in its a colour of the skin it does look a bit sore, if it is sore what do i do?
Redwing
It could be the cold or it could be pecking then, peckng normally leaves marks and is localised rather than an all over colour if you see what I mean Try using some Savlon, sudocreme or vaseline to sooth the skin If its really being bullied you will need to fnd the culprt and maybe separate them for a few days to allow them to slip down the pecking order
