Lynn
I came home from work this evening to find one of my quail dead. I don't know what has happened. The girls are outside and it has been quite windy and cold so I don't know if that has been a factor. I'm quite concerned about the other girls now. Any thoughts? Thank you. Guest
sorry to hear that, if there's no visible sign of trauma/injury then it's impossible to say. Do they have somewhere to shelter from the wind?
Lesley
Rats are always a possibility at this time of year. One of ours was killed through the mesh and we thought it had just died but over the next two nights the rats had burrowed under the run and killed the others so we realised that the first onw was probably rats as well. We ended up setting the aviary on a concrete base. They do need good shelter from the cold as Poet has said.
Lynn
Morning, They do have shelter from the wind, but I"m not sure they choose to use it. I'm not sure about rats - we have six cats and our neighbour on one side has four so I'd be surprised if it is rats, but I suppose you never know. I'm going to bring the other girls in today until such times as we can get the Eglu moved - I have set an area aside (we had a concrete base put in) to build an avarie - looks like our friend is building it sooner than he thought.
