Eggasperated
Since the weather has got very cold I've been trying to mix a warm mash of pellets, oats and a few goodies to ensure my girls fill up before they go to bed. Unfortunately they are all currently fitted with bumper bits and when they eat mash it sticks to their beaks and they then manage to flick it everywhere including over each other and all over their faces . After a couple of sessions licking a tissue and cleaning them off I wonder if anyone can recommend the correct constituency of a mash to try to stop this happening, I've tried wetter and drier but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Cranfield Kate
ha ha ha! sorry, my bumper-bitted chicken ddid that too and the mess was beyond annoying. they stop doing it after a while or they rub their beaks on the grass to clean them. or the other birds peck the food off them (which is rather heart warming to watch)
Eggasperated
Oh well at least I'm not alone then. My OH thought I was very funny sitting in the pen wiping their faces.
