Old Speckled Hen
Does anybody have a source of good value all-in-one suits? Thanks
Melbourne12
These people are very good value. The suits are beautifully made, and much cheaper than the market leading brand. http://www.beebasic.co.uk/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=4 They also do an "astronaut" type suit for about ten quid more. You can sometimes get even cheaper suits on eBay, from I think the Czech Republic, but they are polyester mix rather than cotton. I suspect they would be very sweaty in summer. widdershins
http://www.modernbeekeeping.co.uk/products/beekeeping-clothing This company does suits too - not astronaught though
Lesley
If you are a member of a Beekeeping Association you may find they have a discount available on one of the main brands. We had a 15% (I think) discount on ours by ordering through the association. Edited January 27, 2010 by Guest
Daphne
If you can, I'd try different styles on first (maybe at beekeeping course/club apiary visit). I don't get on with the veil approach - squashes my fringe into my eyes - so I'm a fencing astronaut girl. Whatever you choose you will provide entertainment for the assembled throng

Old Speckled Hen
Thanks for all the advice. I have a course booked in the spring and suits are provided so I can choose which type I'm most comfortable in.
MedusA
I bought a fencing style complete suit in 100% cotton from ebay at a very reasonable price. I prefer that style of veil to the round hat ones, but it's just a personal view. Whatever works for you. Good luck with the beekeeping. I only started last year myself and, like others have said, it is a steep learning curve, but very enjoyable.
