Unsecure chicken perches

Hi there one of our hens has been limping about today, but tail is still up and she is still eating, but looking upset with herself.

 

We have put her in our house on some straw in a basket, in which she is sitting there looking like she may lay an egg.

 

I think she has either been laying soft eggs or is becoming egg bound. What is the best thing to do for a hen in which you suspect could be laying soft eggs?

She may have just sprained her leg jumping around. The rest will do her good if she has, or is egg bound. Sometimes staying somewhere warm and quiet will help pass the egg.

Honey has now passed an egg which appears normal, she is eating but appears to be weak and wants to sleep in the basket still.

 

Seems to have trouble when trying to stand.

 

I looked at both feet and they are not injured. I think laying the egg must have been hard work and she is therefore exhausted.

 

Is there anything else we need to do with her?

Make sure she is drinking. Add some honey to water and she might drink more.

Thanks she stayed in last night and appears to be eating and drinking. However she still cannot stand she puts both wings out and flops back down.

 

My hubbie held her and she appeared to make little yelps when her feet were touched I think you maybe right I think she could have sprained something or perhaps jumped off a step too hard.

 

Is there anything suitable for pain relief I could give to her?

I would carefully check her legs and feet for any breaks/hot spots. If she isn't better today then a trip to the vet might be in order.
