A few things, is there anyway of encouaing egg laying - we have silkies and polands and the silkies are crouching now and again (dont think thy're pure silkies) and i was wondering if there is anyway of encouraging them to lay - fake eggs?

 

Also our girl poland likes to sit in the coop quite a lot - is she broody even if she doesn;t lay eggs, its strange the other polands go out and for a few more hours she stays in their

 

And also even if my silkie isnt laying yet or sitting - is there any chance if i put fertile eggs i buy in the cooop and one of them will sit on them?

They will lay when they are ready. There isn't really a way of speeding them up I'm afraid.

 

I wouldn't bother getting fertile eggs until you are absolutely sure that you have a broody. ie she sits on the nest, flat as a pancake for hours on end, and snaps at you when you try to shift her.

 

You'll waste your money and set yourself up for a disappointment otherwise.
