Britannia Ovens (esp Range cookers) your experience

After being pestered by Mrs toots i have given in to a WBC hive to go with my Langstroths

 

now we have this "pretty" hive she has decided that painting it another colour would look really good.

 

I know blue is out but are there any bee friendly colours apart from white?

 

she likes purple but I didnt know if that would cause them to hang around on the outside of the lifts!

I don't know about the colour though, sorry: perhaps anything pale, even blue?

If you go to Google Images and enter 'Slovenian Beehouses' you'll see some really colourful ones! It's only here in the UK that white seems to be traditional.

 

I don't honestly think the colour matters much, have some fun!

I painted ours using Garden Shades, white (I think it's called something like silver birch) and used a tester pot of emulsion to add colour. They're pastel colours though........much as I would love purple........

 

I did check with the local association first and they said Garden Shades would be OK.

Modern Beekeeping Hives

I used B&Q outside House paint for the outside [some shade of green] and a white emulsion, B&Q again on the inside.

Three coats each, dries really quickly

Of course the Omelet doesn't need painting
