yellowrose
Hello everyone We are finally taking the plunge and getting some chooks I do not know what to get though?? I would like to go for the smaller ones I think (bantams?) as I dont have a particularly big garden. I like silkies, polish etc. I really love Frizzles but finding hard to source locally, are there different types of Frizzles? The only problem is although we don't need LOADS of eggs silkies and Polish are not good layers are they? Any advice would be fab, thanks all, havent even got a coop yet haha! Space Chick
If you are thinking about going for bantams, then maybe get some different types. For example something like a Rhode Island Red Bantam would be a better layer, and then you could get some Silkies or Frizzles for the "looks". You can get different types of frizzled bantams. One thing about silkies is that they go broody at a drop of a hat so you need to be prepared for that too, although they are fabulous girls and really do know how to wrap you around their peculiar 5 toes My OH was against getting a Silkie as he thought they looked like overgrown chicks, and weren't a proper chicken, now he admits that "Big Suze" our silkie is his favourite girl
Redwing
hiya Frizzles are a breed in their own right, they come in bantam or large form and are reasonably hard to get hold of You do also get other breeds that have frizzle feathers (not the same as being a frizzle) these include Pekins and Polands and are easier to source If you are within striking distance of Newbury the Reading and District Bantam Show is on over this weekend and there will be over 2000 bantams of all colours and shapes on display there

yellowrose
Thanks everyone. With regards to the Frizzle's, when you go and look at the breeds on this site, which Frizzle type is that then please?
Space Chick
That is the actual frizzle breed, as opposed to a frizzled feather silkie etc
Redwing
these are the 'proper' frizzles http://www.omlet.co.uk/breeds/breeds.php?breed_type=Chickens&breed=Frizzle
