Cube outside WIR - assistance please

Recommended Posts

Hi I wonder if any owners of (cube green) could give me some urgent advice please? I have ordered a WIR run based on (green eglu) but am now considering a (cube green). What I would like to know is the height off the ground the space for the (cube green) door is at and also the dimensions required for the hole in the side of the run so it fits snugly with the door. Also, and most importantly, how do you attach the (cube green) to the outside of the run - to ensure that it's fox proof? Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thanks.

The height off the ground will totally depend on whether the ground level inside the WIR is the same as the ground level where the WIR stands for instance.. mine is different. We did this so the cube ladder would be closer to the ground than normal to allow the girls an easier route

The hole for the door depends totally on how you want to do it, lots of us on here have cubes on the outside of WIR's but I don't think one of us have the same 'hole' :)

The cube does not need to be attached IMO (mine isn't) as it is just too heavy, it cannot be moved by a fox.

some photos for you.

Cookiemonster - I am still so jealous of your bespoke 'hole'. I don't think the Tonys have the same and wonder if there's a bigger gap between the front of the Cube and the wire mesh on the Tonys?

Others will already know this - I'll find out when I put mine together in the next 2 weeks or so (by end March is the plan).

Thanks CookieMonster! As I couldn't work out exactly what was needed I have decided just to go with the (green eglu) - I can always trade up to a Cube later as we are planning on getting 3-4 hens now with more later. I didn't have much time as had ordered my WIR already and would have meant changing it so rather than get it wrong I have gone for the safe option. If Tony would do WIRs for Scottish folk he would have known the detail and it all would have worked out but que sera.

Never mind excitement now building - my OH has been digging like a maniac last few days trying to get area flat for slabbing. He has also moved 40 2x2 slabs up to top of garden and is absolutly knackered!!! It WILL be worth it. Thanks for the photos.
