Bumper bit or NetTex

Recommended Posts

My Dorking cross is feather plucking the rest of the girls, both at night time and during the day  I've tried using the Johnsons spray which I had in but it's not working. Am loathe to try a bumper bit as she can't be handled easily and we haven't any of the special pliers either :wall: She's one of the lowest in the pecking order and sneaks up from behind when they've their bottoms in the air. I would say fluffy bottoms but they're not at the moment :(

Would NetTex be worth a try and also how often do you have to spray it. Oh, and where is the cheapest place to get it from please. Cheapest I've found so far is here but I've not used them before. Thanks

I do hope that helps.

I tend to use anti-peck rings on my girls if they start feather plucking as thay are easier to put on that bumper bits and I feel they work better. You can get these from the Domestic Fowl Trust :D

Emma, do those still go in the nostrils? Can you get these on them without pliers?

Yes they do go in the nostrils. They stop the hen from completely closing her beak so that she cannot grip the feather and pull it out. They are slightly more streamlined than bumperbits and I've managed to put them on without pliers. It does help to soften them a bit in hot tap water.

:D
