Advice needed - poorly baby quail

Recommended Posts

About five minutes ago one of the chicks lay down (as though to sleep) but then started flailing, rolling around. It seems to be struggling to breathe and is panting. The breathing is slowing down and it looks pretty unlikely to survive. The other fourteen are absolutely fine.

We've isolated the sick one and there are no signs of a blockage or obstruction (from what I can see, which on a baby quail isn't much).

Any ideas? :(

The others all look absolutely fine.

A thorough internet search came up with Pulloram disease but there wasn't any diarrhoea going on.

The temperature's fine (we've got a thermometer in there), their food and water is fresh, they've not been outside or had contact with any other birds - the best I can come up with is that as the dead one was one of the smallest, another one may have dunked it while it was drinking, and it could have inhaled water. Otherwise, just one of those random inexplicable things.

Now of course I'm going to be too anxious to go to bed in case I wake up tomorrow to fourteen little corpses.
