Softy again?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Winnie is looking a bit sorry for herself at the moment. She's normally really perky and into everything, but she's quiet, carrying her wings and tail a bit low and not herself - tending to stand by herself and snooze - but then again she wanders over to the others and is interested in food (but not as much as usual). Her comb is red and upright.

This is her 3rd time like this in the last 2 weeks. Each time she's been herself in the morning, but then becomes really quiet around lunchtime / mid afternoon. The previous 2 times she has produced a softy, so I am assuming it's the same again.

She's never been like this before (she's 2 now) - so it is unlike her. All 3 chooks had a break from laying over the winter and have only just started laying again (well mid to late Feb). I really don't know if Winnie has started to lay yet - we're getting 1 or 2 a day from 3 hens. I can recognise Bunty's eggs but don't know who does the other!

I wormed them all in February.

Do you think it is a softy? And would the softy be the reason for her being subdued, or could the softy be another symptom of something else?

Thanks

Jill

Thanks ANH - that was a quick reply!

It's just that it's unlike her - she's the one who has to come and inspect any cleaning or the first to see what you are up to! Up until this winter when she had her first moult, she has laid really well and not had any problems. She was her normal self this morning.

I'll keep an eye on her.

Thanks

Jill
