Chucky Mama
Welcome to the forum rosebery2. It is a great place to learn all about chickens. I have moved your post over to the 'Chickens' section where you will get more advise
phantom_zone
I'm from Befast! Just bought an Omlet myself and am for getting a couple of hens next month! After many many hours of searching online I only managed to get 1 contact that even replied to eMails.... If you grab an issue of 'Practical Poultry' there is a good dozen breeders in the back from NI...I've yet to go and see one so have nothing to recommend yet! If you want a few numbers, let me know

MimiMeow
Hi rosebery2 - From Belfast myself, just ordered an Eglu and hope to get chickens next week. Myself and the OH have been trawling round various poultry fairs the last few weekends to get an idea of the various breeds available - if you haven't been to one before I believe there's one in Dungannon in two weeks time if you can make it that far. It's always good for a little scouting work before you get involved I think
phantom_zone
MimiMeow --> what are you going for and from who? Breeders over here seem an odd sort...the first I spoke to gave absolutely no info and just said 'come on down when you're ready' the second wouldn't even return a call Might take a look at that fair myself! mabelandflosmum
Hello and welcome! I'm not from Northern Ireland but your message made me smile, I love to see my chooks running around the garden but you will have to fence off the vegetables if you want any for yourself! MimiMeow
phantom_zone - sorry I only saw your message tonight, I've been pretty sick all week until today! Thinking we may go for a couple of Barnevelders and I've contacted a couple of people by email. Still waiting for a response and I'm just crossing my fingers! I completely get what you say about breeders being an odd sort here, think it's probably because it's such a small community here and you always get the impression that you have to act like you know what you're doing! There was another fair at the weekend past in Argory House in Moy which had a fair selection of chickens and other poultry. There's another one there at the end of May. The one in Dungannon is pretty easy to get to, next one's on Sat 17th April, if you google Dungannon Farmers Mart you should get an idea of where it is. I haven't had a proper look at this one yet except for a quick 10 minutes at the end of a market session when of course there wasn't any stock left! I don't know if you've tried the following websites: http://www.nipoultry.com http://www.irishfowl.com I've contacted a few of the closer breeders by email through there and hope someone comes back to me! phantom_zone
Contacted a few on those sites myself...only 1 replied and pointed me to a guy in Carryduff who said just call out when you want them....I don't even know what breeds he had, the conversation was over before I got to ask too many questions! Think i'll take a juke at that fair next saturday....if anything i havent been up that part of the country for ages so a day trip couldn't hurt! Might be worth holding out for the Balmoral Show....I think I can wait another month!
