Day 15 of the banties

Recommended Posts

...to give you a laugh, I lost my lovely high lume candler for over a week. I pulled everything out of the cupboard under the stairs in a futile search the other night, only to find it today...in the chest freezer, in the packet of garlic bread?!!!!

Anyway, it still works (miracle) and I candled the dotte eggs, I am now down to 2, one of which is a tiny, tiny egg :eh: I am not to blame for these though, I have left well alone and they are in the rcom! I know wyandottes can be difficult, does this apply to bantams too? Are tiny eggs less likely to make it -it looks healthy enough but proportionally is looking less developed than the bigger one.

I am not overly upset, I have a lone dorking which is pretty small (but well) and they will be sharing a brooder, so in anycase I won't be in lone chick territory again. Before anyone gets on my case about said lone chick, I am taking assurance from the breeder of the Red Dorkings that it will be fine for a week on its own and there is no need to rush out a buy one of the same age - and that Red Dorkings are very passive chicks. They are very experienced breeders (incase I haven't researched thoroughly enough  ).

I've had a couple of smallish eggs make it perfectly ok but I guess officially they are less likely to produce a sturdy chick

hopefully it will hatch fine

I agree that the Dorking will be ok alone for now, its not ideal but sometimes thats how things work out :D
