Beak injury

Recommended Posts

Hiya,

I only bought my chooks 4 days ago but I already need help. We get a lot of cats in our garden unfortunately and my two hens saw one for the first time and scared them really badly. Luckily they were in their run but I heard the noise and came out to calm them down only to find Nuno, my Columbian blacktail, had a little cut on the top of her beak which was bleeding. I presume she must of hit something in the run during the commotion.

Is there anything I should do or is it best to leave it? She looks okay and I'll keep an eye on her feeding and drinking.

Thanks in advance for any help!! I'm new at this so I'll probably be on here a lot!!

Thanks

sally

Blood is bad!! Keep her away from the other chucks, as they instinctively find blood red 'interesting' and will keep pecking at it. Do you have any vets wound powder? I belief corn flour works too. As long as she's stopped bleeding, she'll be ok, but do keep an eye on it. Others more experienced will be along soon......
