Beauty`s sore spot

Recommended Posts

My Pepperpot seemed to have a bald spot on her breast area. There was no sign of any mite/lice or anything like that and her eglu mate was fine so I didn`t think it was anything serious.

Now, several weeks later, I see that it looks really red and sore. She is lively and bright, eating and laying well and her mate is still fine so it surely can`t be either infectious or any parasite, - can it?

They`re my first chickens and I don`t know what to do here.

I`ve looked at the chicken health sites and can`t see anything it could be.

Most diagnoses seem to include 'poorly behaviour'.

I`ll be grateful for advice.

If there is no sign of parasites it may be worth making sure that the area where she roosts has a little padding as she may have a bit of a pressure sore there as there are no feathers to cushion the area when lying on harder surfaces. If the skin is broken you could bathe in dilute salt water (1 teaspoon to 1 pint) and pat dry afterwards.
