Barkisland
My Cream Legbar, Ada, started laying in February last year. She was the last of my purebreeds to come into lay, but she laid regularly all through the summer and autumn before stopping at the end of October. All of my other girls are now laying regularly again, including my 2 ex batts, who are actually getting on a bit. But I have not had a blue egg since October. Ada is at the lower end of the pecking order, quite timid and nervy, but no longer at the absolute bottom. She seems to be happy enough sitting in the nest box with the others. She seems to spend a lot of time in the nest box, and doesn't come out to free range as much as the others. I'm pretty sure she is eating - she certainly comes running when there's corn or other treats on offer. She moulted over winter and has a fine new set of feathers, including a splendid full set of knickers, which she didn't have for months towards the end of last year. I think it's very odd that she isn't laying. Any thoughts?
abwsco
Perhpas she's just decided to stop We've had no eggs off Mo since September last year although I know she's older than Ada. We've just decided that Mo thinks she's too posh to push.
Barkisland
Actually, I am starting to think she may be laying after all, and either she or one of the others may be eating them? I've recently seen a few eggs with yolky goo smeared on the shells, but no evidence of broken shell etc in the nest box. I know that when one was laying soft shelled eggs last year there was a tendency for them to be eaten. Maybe something similar is happening again? Must admit, Ada has a red comb and looks so fit & well, it was a complete mystery as to why no blue eggs.
