munchkin
Hi everyone I would like your advice please as to if you think my chicken is broody. She is a cochin and approx 6 months old. For the past 2 weeks she has sat on the bars of the eglu all day and won't come out. (She lays her eggs on the bars as i don't think she can fit in the nest). We lift her off the bars once per day and she will eat for about 10 mins and have a huge poo and dustbathe but then tries to get back onto the bars. She had stopped laying but i received 1 egg off her today. I have wormed her with flubenvet approx 1 month ago and have checked for lice and mites - no signs. I have put ice packs underneath her but she continues to sit on them and melt them! I have put bricks on the bars to make it uncomfortable but she sits on the bricks I have also put her in a cold bucket of water 3 times on saturday but this made no difference. Do you think i am missing something and she may not be broody? Thanks for your help.
Egluntyne
She does sound broody, although they normally stop laying when they have a mind to hatch. Have a look at **this article** for some tips about snapping her out of it. The broody cage is your best bet.
