What age should chicks start roosting when they sleep? My five-week-olds seem intent on roosting on ANYTHING they see (backs of chairs, my shoulders, my head, ect ) The brooder they're in at the moment has a hole in the side (the brooder is a really big converted hamster cage, the hole was for a water bottle) and I could poke something, (a lolly stick? A pencil?...) through the hole if they are old enough to roost now.

Its a bit early yet, if they roost too young they can get a crooked keel bone

 

Some will jump on anything they can find and thats ok but they should sleep nestled on the floor of the brooder/coop till they are about 15 weeks
