WildeWoman
After two years of emptying the paddling pool, I have now decided to build a formal duck pond! As ducks are so messy, I would like some sort of filtration system installed so that I don't have to manually empty and clean out the pond, but so far, all the shops I have spoken to have either tried to sell me something I am not convinced is man enough to do the job, or have told me not to bother as nothing with keep up with the ducks! I only have two ladies at the moment, but was planning another two so need to allow for four large birds. Can anyone recommend a particular pump/filtration system? All suggestions and comments most appreciated!
Guest
HI Probably not going to be much help but I think I would still have something to tip out ie a hard shelled pond(some people have used the paddling pool ie shell types (last year Tesco sold them really cheaply), a pond doesnt have to be deep cleaning is essential really with ducks. I think hosing is the only way to clean it as you have found they are unbelievably messy, hope someone can recommend a strong pump or filter system? indie
Blues08
Have a look on practical poultry or follow this link: http://www.practicalpoultry.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1259072227 I have built a pond for my two and it is really difficult to find a decent system, most of the ones you see in the shops will struggle as mess does follow ducks around (although they are always immaculate). If the link doesn't work just go into the housing for waterfowl section and scroll down. It does seem large at first but if you can site the tank out of the way at a place that is convenient to clean out from time to time I think you'll have a reasonably clean pond.
