stephent
My Speckledy is about 22 wks old we have had her for just over a week (she still has feathers on her legs if this means how young she is?), she seems really healty and is still eating, she hasn't layed yet but the black rock we had at the same time has been laying since the day after we had her. Today we notice a few fluffy feathers around the run and eglu and that she has a sneeze/cough too, she has also been lying on her side a few times (maybe basking in the sun i'm not too sure). Any advice and help would be much appreciated please? Edited May 10, 2010 by Guest
sjp
laying on her side sound like chickhen sunbathing it's really scary the first time you see them doing it looks like something has had a go at them fluffy feathers in the run could just be from a moult my 3 'bars' moulted at about 22 weeks from 'teenage' feathers to adult feathers eggs could be a couple of weeks away if she isn't crouching yet the sneeze/cough might just be down to the stress of the move but keep an eye on her just incase
stephent
Thank you for the info, you have definately put my mind at rest, I'm the worlds worst worrier. She seems happy enough and the sneeze doesn't bother her, I have been in touch with the supplier I had her from who says all chickens are vaccinated, but if she is still sneezing tomo then he will give her antibiotics. I've learned so much about chickens over the last week, adding sunbathing to the list is really funny hehe. Thanks very much Leah x
stephent
bit of an update. Were not to sure if the 'sneeze' is actually more of a cough. Sounds like she is trying to cough something up and wheezing. Maybe we are just being over cautious. Your advice would be really appreciated.
