squidsin
I bought a dwarf apple in March and thought the rootball looked a bit dry so soaked it before planting out. It's not put out a single leaf so far. There are some buds on it, but they look pretty old and I can't remember if they were there already when I got it. How can I tell if it's alive or not? Cinnamon
I think that is you s"Ooops, word censored!"e off a tiny bit of bark from the stem & its still green underneath,it is still alive. I need to do this to my pair of little standard Bays, which I suspect have succumbed to the harsh winter we had
Guest
Hi I agree with Cinnamon, I usually s"Ooops, word censored!" with my finger nail the surface of ie a twig and see if its green underneath(do it mid way ) or s"Ooops, word censored!" the trunk. Also if its bendy it should still be alive(brittle branches tend to be dead). You could ie feed it some miracle grow or similar to see if you can give it a kick start. Due to our very cold winter I know I have lost some shrubs that are quite old. I think the plants have been a bit late getting going due to our prolonged cold snap. Keep it tendered and fingers crossed it may be ok good luck indie
squidsin
Seems it's alive! I'll try giving it a good drink of fertiliser and see if that helps. I'm pleased as it's a Laxton's Superb and I love them apples.
