captaincollins
Hi, I loved quial since my dad used to have them run around his finch aviary floor.......................one day a few quail had become 7!! anyway that was many years ago. I have a 9ft X 9ft X 6FT WIR for my hens and am thinking about adding another 3ft by 9ft to it again 6ft high with a roof so they dont fly off. How many Quail would I be able to keep in 3ft wide by 9ft long WIR? I know I need 5 girls for 1 male The main thing is I would like both eggs and meat, what would recommed I do? Can I leave eggs with them to hatch? Thanks Sharon
Lewis
Thats plenty of room! With that I'd do what Janty has done and make it so you can divide it - for intro's or if you ever needed to separate a couple for some reason ... or have one half for the laying adults and the other for chicks/meat birds. Are you getting Japs (best for dual-purpose)? Broody quail are rare but not unheard of I'd maybe get 5 girls with 1 male and then get some unrelated eggs to hatch - that way you could keep back a cockerel (or a few hens) from the chicks to breed from, and then hatch your own for the meat birds
captaincollins
thanks, I just need to start work on the husband now or maybe wait until he goes to sea (he is in the navy) can you hatch all year round or just in the summer?
Lewis
or maybe wait until he goes to sea (he is in the navy) can you hatch all year round or just in the summer? I like it, if he's not here, can't say no Can hatch all year round but fertility will be better spring, summer (+ maybe early autumn)
