batcatz
Lucy suddenly took herself off to the nestbox well before dark which was strange. I checked on her and thought she may have been pecked by another chicken, but there were no signs of injury, but she was opening and closing her beak as if stressed. I took her out of the nestbox and she went to get a drink. I thought she had been pecked in the beak. I decided to check on her at 1am and she was fluffed up and standing by the door of the run. She is totally quiet. She normally chatters and croaks to me. So I bought her in. Then I noticed what looked like a white stringy intestine so I put her in a warm bath. The stringy thing got longer. After looking on the internet and realising it wasn't a prolapse and that it was probably a lash I gently pulled it out. I took a photo of it. I've taken her out of the bath and wrapped her in a towel. I'm keeping her in the bathroom in just the bottom half of the cat carrier tonight, with a bowl of water nearby and a couple of mealworms. Fingers crossed that it is just a lash. She really doesn't look good though.
Egluntyne
If it was a lash, she should feel better for having got rod of it. If she doesn't seem to perk up, I'd take her to the vet, as there may be an infection there. Just another thought......could it have been a large worm? batcatz
Hi, phew she looks better so I put her back outside. There was a softie in the cat carrier and a bit more of the white stringy stuff so I think that was another softie. It may have broken inside her? I don't think it was a worm. I hope not as it was very long.
