mikk100
I would just like to share my experience from yesterday just incase anyone else has noticed the same symptoms. One of my hens was displaying poorly symptoms (hunched up, not laying, all sad looking) over the weekend, she was also very very hot and leaking a white/clear stuff which I thought was egg-white. Then I read these forums and decided it sounded like peritonitis and whisked her off to the vet last night. She also hasn't laid in at least 4 days but they are ex-batts so it is not unusual. I told the vet what I thought and he had one feel of her and said it wasn't that as he couldn't feel and egg or any sign of peritonitis. He quickly diagnosed enteritis!?!?!?!which he says is not quite as bad. He said with peritonitis you tend to get a more green/yellowy discharge rather than the white, and that she has a bowel problem rather than an egg one. This is not a condition I have ever read about in chickens and it may be something you all would like to consider when trying to suss out chicky problems. The upshot of it all is a course of Bayatril and if she doesn't pick up from that then he is able to do a number of tests etc with no guarantees , however the early signs are good, she is eating like mad this morning and a bit more active. Although now i'm left with the problem of the others all pecking her so i've had to Ukadex her and now that is all i can smell
hippy chick
Sorry i don't have any advice for you, Tbh i've never herd of Enteritis. One of mine did leak a load of clear fluid a bit like egg white. Then a couple of hours later she laid a huge lash. I do hope that she continues to get better.
