Lost voice

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've not been online for ages but just wondered if anyone has ever had a chicken that's lost their voice? One of our girls keeps trying to make her usual noises but it just comes out as whispers as if she has a sore throat! She is 4yrs old and perfectly healthy, I think she is just having issues with getting sounds out! I have googled it and gapeworm has come up as a possibility, I really hope that this isn't the case. She has been like it for over a week now.

Just looking for reassurance really.

Thanks in advance.

I had one went croaking in the early days of chook keeping and like you thought perhaps gape worm.

The good news it is is that it is very easily treated with Flubenvet. I "thought" the recommendation was double dose but all recommendations seem to have altered, hopefully someone will clarify soon.

No other thoughts though.

If she has gapeworm, she will be coughing, and gaping, and will appear unwell. A double dose of Flubenvet 2.5% is generally the treatment for this disease, but this should only be given on the recommendation of a vet.

If she is seems to be in difficulty, I would take her to the vet for look see.
