meezers
At least I'm 95% certain she's a girl. Seems most people on the net don't sex salmon favs until they are 2 or 3 weeks old, mine are 7-9 days. But I've been quietly confident for 4 days now that one of the chicks is a girl. When she came out of the coop this morning , her litle wing feathers were very obviously brown, think the colour has come in overnight Out of the other 2 favs, I think one is a boy, can't see much colour, the feathers are stubby, but there is one long , mainly black feather on each wing, different to the girl, so assuming it's a boy. Little one who was late to hatch is still getting it's feathers through, fingers crossed it will be a girl, would hate to have to eat it several months down the line. karlotta
Have you got any pics? I've got two 4 week salmon fav chicks and I'm optimistically hoping both are girls. They both look pretty brown but one is more feathered than the other.
meezers
I haven't got any photos yet, can't hold chicks, spread wings and hold camera at same time , and Muppet is not impressed when I pick nup her babies, so I haven't tried again I did find a picture on this site that might help you , you have to scroll right to the bottom of the page for a pic of 2 week old salmon favs http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGD/Favs/BRKFaverolles.html
karlotta
That's the very pic that's confusing me. While one does look a bit darker than the other, it's nothing like as different as in those pics. I think one of mine is definitely a girl as her chest has come through lovely and pale, but the other looks a bit darker but has no chest feathering to speak of yet. I would say it's definately not black feathering though. Guess I wait and see! Fingers crossed for your girly!
meezers
Right, I've got pics, not very good ones though, I couldn't hold the wing and focus the camera with one hand, but it will give you an idea of what I'm seeing. This is the one I think is a girl, when the wing is open it's just white, brown and a little grey. This one I thought was more likely a boy, going by the black on the 2 longer feathers, but when the wing is opened it has mainly grey with a sprinkle of brown, the only black is on those two feathers Can girls have some black on them ? Any ideas anyone ? The littlest one who I really want to be a girl has the diddest little feathers that when opened are all black I know I should wait a few more days as they are only 7-9 days old . Most people seem to sex theirs at 2-3 weeks, so I'm just being impatient, but I want to know NOW
