jacquie879
Hi there. Hopefully someone out there can help me with this. I have 3 hens (different breeds) and only have a problem with one. For some time now she has been laying the inside of the egg first not with the membrane holding it together and then sometime later the shell & membrane which looks like a screwed up soggy mess approx 2" x 1". Previous to this she had been laying normally then the shells were soft and now she has been laying this for about 2 - 3 weeks. I have been giving her oyster shell and ground up egg shells in her grit but it has been getting worse rather than better. She seems okay in herself but occasionally quiet and is eating and drinking normally. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . It's hard to say what might be causing that - I think some hens are just prone to laying wonky eggs . How old is she? It sounds like you're doing the right things but you could also try limestone flour or Zolcal D which is liquid calcium. jacquie879
Thanks for your reply but I'd be happy if it was just a wonky egg. She lays the inside of the egg first making a yucky mess of her bed and then up to a few hours later the shell which looks like a wrinkled up piece of skin with the membrane inside and is about 2 x 1 inches. I will try your suggestions though.
