Hello all,

I just thought I'd post this, as it might be useful for other people to see...

One of my ladies, Barbara, showed signs of having a stuck egg on Sunday night. I recognised this, as one of my other ladies had a similar problem at the begining of the year. I took her to the Vets and he was able to help her pass her egg (her first one and boy was it a whopper!) without any problem.

Anyway, the Vet said if it ever happended again, I was to get a bowl of warm soapy (like Carex Antibacterial) water and basically submerge her botty end in. I did this, holding her top half so she didn't get too wet and a fairly stressed look hen started to relax in my hands. After a few minutes I popped her into a box with some straw. She strained a bit and poo-ed, which I thought was a good sign, as things were passing. So, I picked her up again and repeated the process.. After a third plunge and back into straw, I really saw her pushing and she even made a huuuuuuuh kind of noise (poor Barbara) but the egg came out easily, phew!

I then checked her botty, saws no blood or anything unterward, dried her off, gave her some food and water and keep an eye on her for a few hours before popping her back in her run with the others. I wasn't sure if it was going to help but it really did the trick and I think we were both relived!

She actually laid another egg yesterday (which was almost the shape of a Walnut Whipp) which was unusal for her, as she seems to lay every other day, so I wonder if she was slightly back-logged but she's certainly back to her old self.

Hope that's helpful!

Lizzy
