WIR decision must be made today

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I have not posted since getting my girls (chicken obsession is a full time commitment!) i have 3 Pekin Bantams - Piper, Prue and Phoebe in an Eglu classic with I extension and they free range all day. I know this is plenty room but want a WIR for winter/when I go on holiday. Have read all posts and looked at pics over and over and can stand it no longer-I must decide- so today i phoned Chris at Bay Animal Housing and he has ordered the wood - I have to send details/drawings today!!Here are my plans at the moment.

6 feet by 9 feet run (will they be OK in this for a week without free ranging if someone else is looking after them?)

1 normal door, 1 stable door for access to Eglu which will be inside on a table.

Sloping roof (cant decide whether to have it sloping forward onto me at the door side or backwards towards side of neighbours house.)I will add clear roofing.

Board around the bottom to keep stuff in.

Is this OK? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have 5 normal sized girls in a 2.5 x 2m run. They stay in it all day the 3 days I work (getting out late afternoon) and are absolutely fine. They've also stayed in it while we've been on holiday with no obvious adverse effects :) .

If you put guttering on, it doesn't matter if the roof slopes towards you :) . Mine runs into a water butt.

Have a look at my signature link - my run sounds very like yours :D .

Thanks for answering and glad to know they will be ok if they have to stay in. Good point about the guttering I spoke to Chris again and he is going to put a bit of extra wood in above the door so that there is room for it. I had a look at your run again and it is almost exactly what I was planning only the other way round if you know what I mean.
