veggiesue
Hello, I have 2 ex-batts that are no longer laying eggs, and want to get 2 point of lay girls. My question is: If these point of lay girls are allowed to free range, will they use a nest box to lay eggs or will they drop them in the garden? Is it advisable to keep them in a smaller space until they get used to using the nest box? And if this is the case, how long do you recommend? THank you, Veggiesue
Ain't Nobody Here
They often lay their first egg somewhere different, like in the run, but they usually know after that where to lay (it's like the first one takes them by surprise ). You can put a golf ball or pot egg in the nestbox to give them a clue, but that's not usually required.
