Eglu cube or go up with 2m run

Hello all,

 

Due to some recent traumas with local yobs pushing over our garden fence and then returning again to let our girls out of their Eglu in the middle of the night, we're looking at finding alternative secure sleeping arrangements for our girls over the next few weeks until we can get our fence repaired.

 

At the moment the best idea we've had is to lock them in our shed at night where at least they should be safer. The shed has quite a lot of tools etc in it but we have a reasonably large pet cage (like this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8705273/Trail/searchtext%3EPET+CAGE.htm) which they can be limited to for cosiness and safety.

 

My question was do you think they would be alright in something like this with a thick layer of Auboise bedding on the floor or do they need to have some roosting bars?

 

We can clear the poo out and top up the bedding as required each day. They would have access the garden and Eglu nesting box during the day as usual,

 

Any advice would be much appreciated,

That should be fine for the time being ...

I use one for ill chickens or chickens i am showing

They will be fine, I use these on nights before shows, as long as its in the shed it will be

 

They dont need perches if its temporary

Bear in mind that sheds get very hot so they'll need to be out of there as soon as possible in the mornings, I have chicks in a shed and a fan comes on at 10am to keep them cool as it gets very hot very quickly, I'm guessing your shed doesnt have ventilation either so its more important

It's not perfect but our shed does have a window we can leave ajar and also a chicken sized hole in the side of the shed from when the previous owner of our house used to keep his chickens in there. They're early risers so I'm anticipating that we'll be up to let them out at 5.30am when they start shouting
