am I being too hasty or do I have a problem?

Our new chickens (we've had them just over a week) are both settling in well, laying regularly and taming up nicely. However, the last 2 days Maisie's egg has obviously been scoffed - either by her or her companion Mona  . However Mona's !eggwhite! , laid second, has been absolutely fine. What I don't know is whether Maisie's egg is being broken (and scoffed?) by her or whether Mona's the one doing the deed. Also, I don't know whether the egg's being broken by accident or intentionally! Prior to this we've had 4-5 perfect eggs from Maisie, laid in the right place, and with good strong shells.

Just to add to the plot - both hens insist on kicking out all the aubiose from the nest box before they lay - so several times I've heard the egg arrive - with a thump!

I'm at work the rest of the week so can't loiter with intent near the (green eglu) until the weekend. In the meantime I thought I'd try putting straw in the nest box (I think both birds were used to straw in the nest box before they came to us) just in case it's accidental breakage through egg being dropped onto bare nest box from a height  . If that doesn't do the trick - should I try the rubber/pot egg route I wonder? Any thoughts/suggestions very welcome.
