majorbloodnock
Might as well aim high Patricia - start with a yatch and who knows where you will end up. I am intrigued by chucks on a boat - can they swim - and can you get life jackets that small? Piccies please My ds has the smallest size you can get but it would swamp a chicken but perhaps you could get the cot style ones they have on planes. Just have to teach them to inflate i t Perhaps you need to get them some water wings..... Sorry, I'll get my coat
Willow
Did you do one of those flotilla sailing holidays? I've always wanted to do one. Yes with Neilson. The guys on the lead boat were superb. They had 12 boats plus them in the flotilla and they were so helpful and lovely with the kids. They had to work so hard ! One evening they took all the kids off for a meal so the parents could have a evening out without children (we just had to declare the boat name on collection and pay for whatever food our kids had eaten ) The lead boat waited in port until the last boat had left to check in case they needed help with anchors or mooring ropes etc then they hurried to the next port to be there before the first boat arrived where they would guide you in. They were constantly available on the radio if you have any questions or problems but you didn't have to sail as a group. There was one day with high winds and two metre swell the last hr sailing so they decided to row out to each yacht and bring them in individually which was a good few hrs extra work for them. They'd planned the route and had info on where to eat, shops, where there were bank m/c's etc. They also recommended little coves where it was good to anchor and swim from the boat. It made it so much easier knowing there were people there to sort all of that for you and that they were good natured and helpful from 9 in the morning until midnight. (Normally I have a real aversion to holiday reps) You do need to either do the training the week before or be able to sail. We didn't quite comply to the requirements because I'd only siled dinghy's before but my husband did a lot of yacht sailing in his teens and although he'd been a bit worried about the lack of recent experience he was certainly one of the more experienced skippers outside of the Neilson guys. Many of the others did a week in the hotel in the resort being trained to sail before the week flotilla. We hired a skipper for the first day to make sure we were ok and he was delightful and trained the boys to crew but we hadn't actually needed him. I did find by mid week I wanted a good walk to stretch my legs but it was sufficiently physically active I was happy. I'd bought myself a pretty floppy hat at the airport but baseball caps, shorts and teeshirts or swimsuit were the appropriate attire so the hat stayed in it's bag I'm booking again for next year !
