Egg white tastes of metal

Hello all,

 

I have some layers and have noticed that the egg whites have a slight unpleasent metal taste when hard-boiled or fried. :think:

My birds are fed on the smallholders range layers pellets and have access to grit and oyster shell and a handful of corn in the evening.

 

Has anyone else had this problem - any thoughts?

They have an outdoor run that used to be a plant border - there are a couple of shrubs and a large fern - maybe I should dig them out!

 

Are there any particular plants that should be avoided - when I let mine free range, they go crazy for the grass.
