Chicken shack
Hi I am unsure if I am using this site correctly. I want to know more before I commit to buying an Eglu or Cube. My garden is not very big and I have been told that chickens will create flys and smell. I was thinking of having a cube permantly sited in one position and keeping four chickens, it would be close to the house. But would I be better off having an Eglu that I could move about. HELP? OR Trudy Are they really fox proof?
Sam Palmer
We've had our Cube and 4 chickens on bark on our patio, just outside the patio doors since just before Christmas and we don't have a problem with smells and flies. Plus, when the chickens have taken themselves off to bed when it's dark, they sit in the doorway of the Cube before I close the door and watch what's going on in the living room. So I think we keep them entertained as well! We regularly have foxes come through our garden and they've not attempted to try and get in at the chickens. migsy
I have a small garden and my Eglu Go is on a bed of wood chip (hardwood). This is much better than having it on grass. If you have a small garden you will need to keep either coop in one place because if you move it about your lawn will be ruined very quickly. migsy
Oh yes, I have 3 chickens and no problems with flys. There is a slight smell but it is not strong or unpleasant. I have started putting Stalosan F disinfectant on the chips in the run as well.
