Quick Question

Recommended Posts

i've had to seperate one of my girls because she's not well, she's still in the run at the moment but in a cat box. i'm not sure if i should try and put her in the eglu with the other girls or leave her and see how she is tomorrow. oh says she can't come in the house so i'm quite worried she's going to get cold on her own, i've put an old towel over the box to keep her as warm as possible. :(

she's in the wir, so safe from foxy and it's sheltered. i'm probably being a fussy mum. i've got a post in chicken clinic with the details. really not sure what's wrong bless her but the others just wouldn't leave her alone and pecked her vent quite badly, loads of blood so needed to seperate her asap :(

thank you :) i've just been out to check her and she's settled down, the bleeding's stopped it just looks like white, runny poo leaking from the vent, i'm wondering if something's blocked and stopping her pooing properly. but i'll clean her up again tomorrow and have proper look. she looks a bit happier and relaxed. so hopefully the break from the other girls will help her recover. in the morning should i let her out with the others or keep her in the box all day, she's got a little pot of water and i could put food in with her :?:

I'd keep her on her own for now until you know what's happened. Could she have peritonitis? Is her abdomen swollen?

I think the advice is to keep her off layers pellets for a bit so that she is less likely to lay, have a quick search on here for peritonitis and I'm sure you'll find some information to help you.

Sorry I can't be of more help :(

have you got any corn??? or porridge?

Do you have some purple spray (gentian violet) you could spray her bottom with? It's disinfectant and disguises the colour - chooks like red and will peck at that colour.

If you want to keep her separate, do you have a dog cage or rabbit hutch she could go in?

i've got the mixed corn that i give them for treats, it's got grit mixed in with it, is that any good? what sort of porridge could i give her? i sprayed her with purple spray, she's covered bless her but my chooks seem to like it and still peck. she's in a pet carrier that we use to take the cats to the vet. i don't have anything else unfortunately. :(

i gave her a bath and loads of white stuff came out, it looks like egg white with a bit of the white poo in it. while i was drying her she strained a couple of times and some proper poop came out so i'm hoping it's clearing out now.

she's eating her weetabix , drinking and very lively so i'm not as concerned as yesterday. the blood was from being pecked. i'm keeping her in the box today to rest without being bullied as she's still leaking a bit.

she's quite perky but still leaky so i'm keeping her seperate until it stops because the other want to eat it :vom:

oh put together a makeshift hospital wing for her  so she can still see the others and scratch about. she seems very happy :D

thank you, my dad designed it and we all helped build it :D

poor skye's not looking so good today, i'm not sure if it's because she's seperated from the others or if it's because she's still leaky :( it was quite sweet last night, scarlet was putting her beak through the wire and gently pecking skye's beak.
