Miss orange on the mend

Recommended Posts

I noticed she was not eating and was standing still a lot and keeping out of the way of the other girls, she stood with her head down as sick birds do and her crop would not empty,

so i expelled her crop and purchased food syringes, fresh mealworm, dried mealworm, Pro biotic Yoghurt and visit to vets, anti-biotic and over £40 later and a separate bed in the kitchen and access to my new lawn Miss Orange seems to be making a recovery.

Come on miss orange you can do it xxx

And cos of the Baytril if she lays again we cant use the eggs for at least a month after treatment.

But there is a question, could we eat the eggs or is it just other people that shouldn't unless they are allergic to the antibiotic?

Here is Miss Orange nibbling at some mealworm and corn yogurt with prunes!

The advice from the manufacturers is that egg withdrawal should be as "advised" by the vet, and is usually 28 days. I expect most vets will say 28 days!

And a previous Omlet thread:

I would wait the 4 weeks before eating her eggs should she lay as I wouldn't want to ingest any unecessary antimicrobials myself (antibiotic resistance is rife).

Wow thanks that is a great website and it leans me to believe maybe miss orange had impacted crop as when i turned her upside down and expelled her crop there were some small pieces of undigested woody green bean skin from the previous day. So probably the Baytril was not needed but she is perking up nicely so I'll keep it up.

Alls well :)
