Goldfish anyone?

Recommended Posts

One of our goldfish . . only a month on has died. I thought I would clean out the tank today (usually do it on a Sunday). Should I treat the others with anything? I noticed yesterday it wasn't eating very much and it's top fin was down.

Is this an established tank, or one you have only had fish in for a month?

If an established tank I wouldn't do anything, but keep an eye out for symptoms in the other fish. Fish, like anything else, do die seemingly randomly and most of the treatments are quite toxic in themselves so unless there is something specific you can treat for you may be doing your other fish more harm than good.

If a new tank, have you 'cycled' it properly? If not, read up on cycling as you could be building up toxic nitrites in the tank.

best of luck

Fingers crossed all will be fine, then! When we had goldfish (we now have tropicals, like chickens it gets addictive and you tend to 'trade up') every time we bought new fish, my husband would name one Clive and that one would die. So that's my only other hint...

I have to admit I wasn't over keen on fish but at a stitching group a lady had one goldfish and i kept looking at it! I didn't stitch much that night! So I encouraged the children to take an interest and we got three goldfish.

They are much more entertaining than the guineapigs we had and I love watching them. A friend of mine has upgraded to a biorb tropical tank . . . .
