Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Whenever possible we leave our girls to free range, while we are out at work (garden is secure and next door neighbours keep a look out for us), on these days we are lucky to come home to find even one egg in the nest box. On days when the girls are kept in the run til afternoon we normally get two eggs My question is can a hen get so engrossed in exploring that she 'forgets' to lay, or do we have an egg depot somewhere in the garden we are yet to find

They often do. Have a hunt round under shrubs, in sheds, old planters and the like. You may well find a cache of eggs.

Thanks Egluntyne (again ) I had my suspicions that was the most likely explanation, but have yet to find the hiding place
