ronnieroo
One of my ex bat chickens Leafy, started by sitting by herself all day about a week ago. Didn't think much of it at first. My neighbour thought she was crop bound - huge squishy crop. He massaged her while I held and tipped her. 5 days later still no improvement - she was eating Very Little and just sat. Today she seemed much better but noticed her comb was very pale. Mentioned this to neighbour who felt crop and suggested we go through the same procedure. There was a lot of watery stuff and gurgling noises but afterwards poor thing - she was literally gasping for breath and making the most awful noises. I really thought she was a gonner. She was obviously choking and struggling to breath. Now she is breathing easier, although making gurgly noises, very tired and the crop still seems big. She has squirty poo. she is also exhausted poor thing and one of the other chickens is being unkind - obviously sensing her weakness - she was previously top dog in the hierarchy. Is there anything I can do to help - or is it the end for poor old leafy. I really don't want to see her suffer, so can I ease her suffering anyhow? Really would appreciate any help.xx
Chucky Mama
Sorry to hear that your girl is poorly She may have lost some of the elasticity in her crop if it has been extended for some time perhaps. There is something on Sour Crop [*HERE*] I would be really careful stressing her too much though after today as you could push her over the edge. It sounds like she may have inhaled some of the fluid when you tipped her up. Make sure that you do it carefully a little at a time and give her chance to recover between attempts. Pikey
Try giving her some natural probiotic yogurt with some garlic minced into it......this will help. I found when mine had sour crop the only way to sort it was by making her sick...however she was ok after a couple of days.
