Poppy has sour crop

Recommended Posts

It's my first experience of a chicken with this condition. She was a bit off colour last night, & by this afternoon we finally realised what the problem is.

We've made her vomit the crop contents, but it keeps filling up :( & in between have given her live yoghurt & dried mealworms & a bowl of water. She's eating a little and drinking quite a bit.

She looks really sorry for herself. She's in the kitchen so we can keep an ey on her, & we'll see what she's like in the morning.

Jules there is advice on sour crop in the Frequently Asked Questions section. I'm afraid I don't know how to provide a straight link to the topic for you so hopefully you can find it. I can only speak from personal experience when my hen developed crop problems a few weeks ago which started as a compacted crop which then led to a squishy crop which wouldn't go down. I tried everything from antibiotics to live maggots, yogurt, trying to make her sick (she wouldn't) but she continued to go downhill. Some forum members seemed to have been luckier and managed to get their hens through sour crop so I wish you all the best and hope you get her through this.
