Coop light problems!

When I let the girls out of their run at 6.20 this morning, there was an egg laid in the run

 

I wondered if it might be a softy as it looked softy-coloured (well in my bleary eyed state it did anyway!) but when I picked it up it had a normal hard shell.

 

The girls ALWAYS lay in the nest box, so I wonder why the producer of this egg decided to lay it in the run? Was it just because it was so early in the morning? Or did it take her by surprise?!

Softies seem to be laid in random places. Mine always lay in the nesting box but softies get dropped on the roosting bars or on the back door step.

Daphne one of my 3 Columbine/Skylines has taken to laying her eggs in the same place in the free-ranging when she has the choice of 4 nest boxes She used to use one of them quite happily

I don't mind at all because they are the most gorgeous blue

Well I am no further forward with my investigations. All eggs layed in the nest box today including a softee which normally ARE dropped in random places!
