Madchook
My last lot of eggs of the year are hatching These were set in order to provide some good friends with their first hens, hoping it will produce at least 3 hens. Unforunately I set plenty of eggs, but I had my first experience of a bad seller on Ebay with 12 CL eggs who took a week and a half to send the eggs telling me their hens weren't laying as they were (!) and have since told me my complaints are 'ridiculous' because I didn't want to pay out to return the 8 infertiles as replacements are no good to me now! They are a big seller too Feel a bit sad, I have LOVED it and learnt so much and am already looking forward to next year when I have my breeding groups established, but also hopeful that by then I will have my lovely Red Dorking as a broody by then! I feel a real sense of satisfaction from doing the entire thing, just waiting for my big layer pen to start being productive! Anyway, one mystery egg is hatching (neighbours honesty box!)as is one of the two(!) Cls. There are also 4 LSxWelsummer and another mystery egg to go....fingers crossed! Oh and big hen vibes please (please let the 2 CLs be girls!!! ) Maddy xxx ps. will take some photos of everything later
Madchook
Bummer. First chick that pipped last night and zipped half the shell this morning died in shell! How rubbish is that, so close! I am wondering if maybe it punctured its own yolk sac as there is a lot of yellow fluid in and around it although it hasn't absorbed the sac -either that or I have drowned them with humidity. Worried now
