Candling a dud

Recommended Posts

Hi all :) I candled my six pekin frizzle eggs on day 4 and realised that I had one dud (no spider veins and a red ring around the yolk) so discarded it. Yesterday (day 7) I candled again, and have 4 definite embryos (wriggling!). The other egg has some veins but no movement and generally looks 'clearer' than the others. I also think it has the red ring around the yolk. Now, should I leave it another 24 hours then check again? I don't want to leave a dud in the incy in case it explodes, but as it's my first attempt at hatching I don't want to discard a healthy but slow growing foetus :?

I had one with a blood ring, you could see the shadow of the embryo but no spider-like veins...just a red 'tea stain' ring. If it still has the veins, I would leave it a little longer and candled again in a day or so.

But this is my first go at hatching so I'm only going on what I've seen and read online!

Dont candle it again so soon just in case, also there wont be much difference tomorrow, leave it to day 7 then try again - it will be fine in the meantime and at day 7 there will be more difference if its stopped growing and you can be more sure of disposing of it

If it smells or weeps at any point obviously just bin it
