louise62
One of my girls laid her first egg on Thursday, but I didn't know which. Today I hid behind a tree with my morning cuppa and kept watch! Elspeth was in and out of the eglu for about an hour. Each time she came out she would peck around, picking up feathers and straw but not doing anything with them. Then she would go back into the eglu again for about 5 minutes each time. Eventually she went in, followed by Phoebe. I peeped in and Elspeth was in the nest box and Phoebe sitting on the bars keeping watch I left them to it (retreating back behind the tree ). Then there was a lovely gentle 'trilling' and 'chirruping' sound for about 5 minutes before Elspeth popped out and started to quietly peck around again. I peeped in the eglu and there was the egg I expected Elspeth to make more noise than that. I thought chickens announced their egg. Anyway, one egg safely delivered and sitting in the kitchen about to be made into my lunchtime sandwhich
