bridgy chooks
One of my new girls makes a purring noise when the 3 of them are sorting out where to sleep at night. Then when they are settled, she starts to snore. I know that other peoples hens snore on here but just wondering if you have any that purr (that's the closest sound I can think of to what she does). She seems to do it when she wants to settle and the other 2 are faffing around trying to find space/barge her around, almost like she's saying 'I'm happy, just sit down and go to sleep!'. Any thoughts?!
staceychristie
Ours do, they sing to each other - like purring tennis ! I think it shows that they're happy - well done you. Stacey
chickenanne
Ours purr occasionally, too: mostly when they're relaxing in the sunshine. They seem to only do it when v happy and relaxed, so definitely a good sign! They don't all do it, I reckon some are just more vocal than others. sophiemccoy
My Matilda makes a purring noise - well, half-purring, half-gurgling - when she's sunbathing. Scared the life out of my at first but apparently it's normal. I have heard about a different type of purring they make, which is an alarm call if they see a predator or something, but mine have never made it and sounds like that's not what yours are doing
Mercedes55
One of mine makes a weird noise that now I've read your post could be compared to purring
